Ryan Petty joins Mark Walters as another blue state expands its campaign against gun owners, firearms dealers and some of America’s most commonly owned pistols.
Mark begins with the extraordinary story of an Albuquerque man accused of killing his cousin during an argument over whose enchiladas were hotter. What begins as a bizarre crime story becomes a serious conversation about personal responsibility, de-escalation and the reality of evil.
The discussion then moves to another violent holiday weekend in Chicago. Mark and Ryan examine the continuing bloodshed, the small population of repeat violent offenders driving much of the crime and the political policies that repeatedly leave dangerous people on the streets.
They ask the question Chicago’s leadership never seems willing to answer: If officials have controlled the city for generations, when do they become responsible for the consequences of their own policies?
Next, Mark connects the alleged firearms-licensing abuses in the U.S. Virgin Islands to a developing blue-state gun-control strategy.
New Maryland requirements will compel licensed firearms dealers to report burglaries, attempted burglaries, thefts and certain failures involving security systems and video surveillance. Mark and Ryan explain why vague reporting mandates and accumulating civil penalties could become tools for forcing lawful dealers out of business.
Maryland is also prohibiting a category of firearms it calls “machine gun convertible pistols.” The restriction is directed at commonly owned semiautomatic handguns—including certain Glock pistols—because criminals can illegally modify them with conversion devices.
Why should millions of lawful gun owners lose access to common firearms because criminals illegally alter them?
Finally, Ryan highlights a proposal from Tennessee Democrat Justin Pearson for a national gun-licensing system. Mark and Ryan challenge Pearson’s claims and warn that the Virgin Islands’ alleged licensing abuses provide a preview of what could happen when government permission replaces a constitutional right.
